Local Farm Delivers Fresh, Organic Goods to Sault Ste. Marie Customers
Fruitful Hill Farm, a family-owned and operated business, has been serving the Algoma District for over a decade. Located in Dunns Valley, 67 km east of Sault Ste. Marie, the farm is accessible via Highway 638, 27 km north of Bruce Mines.
The farm's main focus is on organic farming, with no pesticides or sprays used in the growing process. John MacPhail, a member of the family-run operation, emphasizes their commitment to clean eating, stating, 'No junk. It’s the real stuff.'
Fruitful Hill Farm offers a wide range of products, including fresh produce, artisanal bread (white, whole wheat, rye, sourdough, cinnamon raisin), jams, preserves, and trail mix. They also provide a selection of bath products, combining nuts, dried fruit, grains, and organic ingredients.
The farm's goods are available at two local markets: Soo Market on Saturdays throughout the year and the Algoma Farmers’ Market near the Roberta Bondar Pavilion during the summer months. During the winter, they offer a variety of fresh bread and baked goods, including organic lemon scones, cherry scones, and fruit cake.
John MacPhail enjoys the outdoor work and the sense of community that comes with being part of a family-operated business. He also works as a carpenter, balancing his passion for farming with his other professional endeavors.
The farm's produce is also available for purchase through their website (https://www.fruitfulhillfarm.ca/), with online orders delivered to Sault Ste. Marie customers every Wednesday. The MacPhails take pride in building personal relationships with their customers and believe in the benefits of buying locally.
"There are a few people who comment and say, 'I like to shop local. I'm happy to buy from you,'" John shares. "We appreciate that, and it reinforces our commitment to providing fresh, organic goods to our community."
