A devastating crash in Northwest Queensland has left a mother and her 10-year-old daughter dead, and three other children injured. The incident occurred on Doomadgee Road, near the remote Indigenous community of Doomadgee, just after 6.30 am on Friday. The driver of the white 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser, a 30-year-old woman from Cloncurry, was found with critical injuries and died at the scene. Her 10-year-old daughter was rushed to Doomadgee Hospital but was later pronounced dead. Three other children, including a one-year-old boy, a three-year-old girl, and a four-year-old boy, were also injured. Two were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while one remains in a critical condition. The driver of the black 2011 Nissan Maxima, a 28-year-old Doomadgee man, is now in custody. He was known to the victims and had been in a relationship with the woman killed in the crash, and is the father or stepfather of the children. Police are considering domestic violence as part of their inquiries. The crash has been described as a 'catastrophe' by Acting Superintendent Paul Austin, who said the investigation must be thorough and methodical. The images of the damaged vehicles are confronting, but police hope they can assist in the inquiry. Police have appealed to anyone who saw either vehicle in the hours or days leading up to the crash to come forward. The crime scene has been declared, with forensic crash investigators continuing to work through debris and evidence at the site. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with domestic violence and other factors being considered. Local police are working to support the grieving community, which has experienced extreme grief as a result of the incident.
