The Philadelphia Cultural Fund (PCF) is set to launch a significant initiative in 2026, distributing $13 million in grants to arts and cultural organizations across the city. This marks a substantial shift in the organization's 30-year history, aiming to enhance funding equity and accessibility.

Community Impact Grant
One of the key grants available is the Community Impact Grant, which is open to organizations with annual budgets under $500,000. This grant, powered by an $8 million grant from the William Penn Foundation, offers 140 grants of $10,000 each. The deadline for applications is January 16.
Art & Culture Grant
The Art & Culture Grant, a longstanding annual grant of $12,500, is also available. This year, it is open to Philadelphia-based art-and-culture nonprofits or fiscally-sponsored groups with budgets under $3 million. The deadline for applications is January 9.
The Impact of PCF Grants
Gabriela Sanchez has firsthand experience with the impact of PCF grants. Her organization, Power Street Theatre, received funding from PCF, which helped her grow the community arts organization she started in 2012. She states, 'The first grant I ever wrote was for the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. I never saw myself as a grant writer. But being on the ground and still being on the ground in the work that I do has really made me become an even deeper champion of equity and access.'
Expanding Access and Community Involvement
PCF is committed to making the grant process as accessible as possible. They offer information sessions and have posted videos from those sessions online for anyone interested in learning more about applying. The organization also invites everyday Philadelphians to serve on the peer panel that decides which organizations receive Community Impact Grants.
The panel consists of 30-35 people who are paid a stipend to review applications and make recommendations. Panelists do not need to be arts-and-culture experts but must care about expanding access and be willing to make decisions informed by their lived experiences.

She states, 'Artists are the co-conspirators of change, and their work is important because it fosters empathy and connection. It allows us to ask questions and not always have the answers, but to be in dialogue with each other.'
Despite the challenges in the funding landscape, including federal funding cuts, PCF is in a 'position of abundance' due to a refusal to 'lead with fear.' Sanchez attributes this to her active choice of troubleshooting and not perpetuating the scarcity mindset.
