Tiger Woods: Will He or Won't He? The Ryder Cup Captaincy Question
It's the question on every golf fan's mind: Will Tiger Woods captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2027? During a recent press conference, the legendary golfer gave a response that left everyone wanting more.
When asked directly if he'd accept the captaincy, Woods simply replied, with a knowing smirk, "No one's asked me."
But here's where it gets interesting: the reporter pressed further, essentially asking the question again. Woods, however, stuck to his original, concise answer.
This isn't the first time Woods has been in the captaincy conversation. Earlier this year, he declined the opportunity to lead the team at Bethpage Black, citing his commitments to the PGA Tour Policy Board. Even though he wasn't the official captain, Woods still supported the U.S. squad as much as he could, staying connected with the players and captains. Despite his support, the U.S. team ultimately lost to the Europeans.
Now, the focus is on 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland. This is where things get even more intriguing. The U.S. team is aiming to break a 34-year winless streak on foreign soil. Woods has a close relationship with J.P. McManus, the course owner, which could make him a prime candidate.
However, Woods is also deeply involved as chairman of the PGA Tour’s Future Competition Committee, overseeing significant changes to the Tour.
So, what's the verdict? It seems inevitable that the PGA of America will explore Woods' interest in the captaincy. But whether he'll accept is a whole different ball game.
